DOWN IN THE DEEP

Down in the deep takes as its starting point a real-life incident fron Xinjiang in the nineties. Xinjiang Airlines sold their old Russian planes in order to buy a new American Boeing. However, it is so cold in Ürumqi during the wintertime that airplane motors freeze. When airport personel poured boiling water over the motors to thaw them, the way they had been used to doing with the old Russian planes, the Boeing motors were completely wrecked. In the play, the pilots are stuck in a shabby Ürümqi hotel for the entire winter. There they meet a 10-year-old Norwegian girl who is bicycling around in the deep…
