Bent Hamer's wonderful film KITCHEN STORIES has been adapted for the stage by Phil Porter and will have a rehearsed reading at the English Touring Theatre, 25 Short Street, SE1 on Friday 27th March at 3pm.

In 1944, Swedish housewives established The Home Research Institute. Here scientists performed experiments into housekeeping methods, hoping to develop better products, more efficient systems and working conditions.

Folke Nilsson, an employee of The Home Research Institute, is dispatched to the home of reclusive farmer Isak Bjørvik, where he sits in a tennis umpire’s chair in the corner of Isak’s kitchen and follows his instructions to observe, but never to interact with his subject.

Kitchen Stories is a heart-warming depiction of what happens when a man with a penchant for hard boiled eggs positions himself indefinitely in the corner of another man’s kitchen.
