Description

The child is there.

THE CHILD’S FATHER is there.

Beyond that, nothing is certain.

Suddenly the child’s absent mother is back, searching for answers. Why isn’t she living with her child? Has she chosen to leave? Is she unable to be there or is she not allowed? Is she mad? How is her child affected by her absence?

Isakstuen crafts a kaleidoscopic image of motherhood and explores the ideal of the ‘good’ mother and the human complexity and messiness of our actual lives. Maybe the only lovable mother is a dead mother?

Reviews

’I am surprisingly touched by the author’s mercilessly true-to-life portrait of the mother; her character clearly conveyed to us in all its complexity by the four actresses.’
Norsk Shakespearetidsskrift
’In Kjære Albert, several different incarnations of an absent mother clash on stage. This successful device allows for the exploration of complex and contrasting explanations as to why she is no longer around.’
Scenekunst.no
’An intelligent and precise text which will make you think, and laugh, about one of our greatest taboos.’
Klassekampen
’Searching for Alfie Atkins’ mum’
Dagsaviken
‘Candid, witty, and poignant’
iTromsø
’raw and brutal, on motherhood’
NRK
‘You will certainly not find any ”Dear Mother” here.’
